go fish!

This is a brilliant card game for littlies - Audrey has been enjoying playing it with us since she was 3.  It's the Paul Frank version of Go Fish which I bought here.  It's a bit of a bargain really as it comes in a very study and attractive box which has survived quite possibly several hundred games and over-zealous putting away.  It's also one of those rare kids game that doesn't lead to sighs from us parents when we see it headed our way.  Win-win!

choosing paint

After an age deciding on our interior colours I take notice of nifty little articles like this one, by Donald Kaufman, more often.  I have also deduced from this whole escapade that interior designers are worth it if they truly know you and know what you want.  We didn't have an interior designer as such, but I did have someone come over once.  Her ideas on colour were helpful despite us changing them all later on, however her interior designer eye was invaluable. She pointed out and questioned things we'd never even noticed before, after five years of living in the house, such as views (disturbing downpipes, etc) and light fittings inside and out.  We changed quite a few things in that respect.

And we'll finally get to experience all our choices (nicey and dicey) when we move in this weekend...hallelujah!

There are plenty of lace rings about nowadays but this one is particularly beautiful.  The perfect wedding band?

nearly there

Wow, we might be in the house in a couple of weeks!  The wallpaper was done last week, and one of the rooms is out.there.  A few glimpses...

looking down to the entrance hall at the fornasetti wallpaper
lounge sisal wallpaper with pale gold switchplates - we didn't want big white rectangles taking over
I will miss these rugged old stairs when they are carpeted in a week's time.  I love how they look against the newly stained dark floors.

pet portrait

My brother's darling Jack Russell terrier, who was still an under-1 puppy, was hit and killed by a truck last month.   He was such a tear-about and on that fateful day he just happened to wheedle his way out of the property and over the road.  When he spied my brother and his boyfriend he sped back across the road but sadly never made it.  They loved him hugely and it left a big gap in their lives.

So...I recalled Erica having pet portraits of her cats done and after a little hunting on her blog found the artist - Kristina Moller, shop owner of Queen of the Cats.  Kristina was so lovely and professional and within a week, after supplying her with photos of Ricky, had a portrait to show me...

Such an amazing likeness.  I love it.  Thankyou Kristina xx

Cats on Books

How fantastic is this Fornasetti fabric?  Cats turning stacks of books into disarray.  Audrey is utterly batty over cats (unexpected, with a bird-loving mother), so roman blinds for the girls room perhaps?  The Fornasetti store in Milan emailed photos through.  It felt quite special emailing with the store manager, Alessandro, direct.  Heck I love the internet.
