defining colours

I think it's so cool a lovely customer of mine ordered this outfit in browns for her toddler girl. I had originally made my own top out of this tobacco brown fine stripe jersey knit, and now seeing it in miniature feel compelled to make one for Audrey. I dress her quite frequently in blues, browns and grey that people often get confused as to whether she is a boy or girl. It's funny how a colour defines one's gender. And I thought she had the face of a little angel girl to pull off wearing dark colours. Ahh, who cares!

And is this just a little bit clever for a not-yet 4 yr old? Lucy made her first pattern this morning - trousers for Dad (excuse all the messy thread on the floor from the above project)...

  1. Oooh that is so cute. You totally need to make those for Dad. Bless her advanced pattern making skills :)

  2. can you make this exact outfit for me? i love brown, especially paired with grey, and i can't imagine a more perfect mama autumn outfit than wool jersey pants and a snuggly turtleneck.

my favorite little girl at the park wears black. leon often wears pink and green and orange.

  3. I totally know what you mean about colors, I liked to dress Devon in what people would consider "boy" colors as well. Funny thing is people always thought she was a boy no matter what color she wore because it took forever for her hair to grow in! BTW that pant pattern that Lucy made is AWESOME! Just like mommy:)

  4. Erica - too funny. You know, I actually prefer this little jersey style to the one I made for myself (simple bound neckline) and so wish I had bought more of this merino stripe. I have been hiding it from the shop. And right now I am snug in red merino wool pants. The brown (or a grey) would be a little less startling though, I do admit.
