Kelly, a reader based in Melbourne, posted a comment the other day remarking on the term we use for what is basically fluffed milk for kids at cafes - a 'fluffy'.
In Melbourne, I am told, they are called Babycinos. Would anyone else like to contribute - say from LA, NY, Italy, France...? Please share!
my daughter and I call them foamy milks. we live near san francisco.
ReplyDeleteat Starbucks we just say children's milk. steamed or cold? flavour or no? specific flavour? head degree? etc.
ReplyDeleteFluffy sounds so much better.
Thank you for the order.
That sounds like Starbucks alright! They like to keep things simple...
ReplyDeleteIn Italy we do have this kind of milk, but it has no special name. It is just the milk you get in bars when you ask for hot milk. So we say "latte caldo". By the way, I am always amused by the way Italian words are used to mean things that do not exist in Italy, as the use of "latte" for milk and coffee (while we call it "caffellatte" or " caffè e latte", literally, coffee and milk...
ReplyDeletewhat is fluffed milk?! now, i am so lost... i don't even think i know what that it!
ReplyDeleteis it like a smoothie?
a shake?
hot chocolate?
i have never had it! i don't think...
these drinks are just the fluffy bit of milk that is on top of a hot chocolate or coffee, just a couple of spoonfuls at most, enough to keep a toddler happy for a bit while mum and dad have the real coffee!
ReplyDeleteI will tell you a secret- here in Australia we are all VERY fond of the names New Zealanders give things like 'chilly bins' (an esky), or a 'trundler' (a shopping trolley). We get very excited when we discover a new one! :)
My son calls them 'Bubbles
ReplyDelete', I suppose it's like bubbles in your mouth.
oh i see... if i am understanding correctly... i call it foam!
